Retro-Fascinator

Love a vintage look? You’ll adore this classic garrison cap, a standard hat style for military cadets as well as mid-century air stewardesses. The design possibilities are endless, from WW2 pin-up girl to Victorian-Gothic riding cap. You will design your own retro-fascinator using a sinamay straw base and various millinery trims, including veiling, feathers, ribbons, etc. Milliner Laura Del Villaggio will discuss the history of millinery and its 21st c. relevance, focusing on design development and execution. Students will work with traditional millinery tools and learn couture hand-sewing techniques.

Prerequisite: Previous sewing skills helpful, but not required.
